Early 70s vintage pamphlet for a Dinner Theater engagement in Austin, Texas starring Andy Devine. This was a new concept, having dinner and then watching a play. And Andy Devine and his co-star Duchess Tomasello were busy traveling from town to town, until they got here in Texas where they went to the Country Dinner Playhouse in Austin remembered in this little play-bill style formatted pamphlet. There are some other short blurbs and tiny pictures of the other performers. The play's name was: What Did We Do Wrong? by Henry Denker. There is a head-shot of Andy in shirtsleeves on the front cover, which may be shown in an accompanying picture. There is a short biography of Andy, Duchess, and little short blurbs of the other players. The condition is somewhat wrinkled from handling and the last couple of pages of this 8 page pamphlet have what appears to be light coffee stains (this was remember, the early days of dinner theatre). With covers included, it might be counted as a 12 page pamphlet with associated advertising and information about Dinner Theatres, Inc. The pamphlet came from an estate and was formerly owned by a collector of Western Memorabilia here in Austin, and it may be a one-of-a-kind ephemera item. While the condition is not perfect, or should we say, the condition is merely acceptable by the usual collector's standards, its rarity might overcome that shortcoming for a devoted fan. We just checked Wikipedia and found that the playwright, Henry Denker is still alive at the venerable age of 97 and Wikipedia mentions in quotations a claim that Denker both originated and written the first television series ever produced back in 1939. What Did We Do Wrong? was a Denker play about a college student who handcuffed himself to a dean to protest whatever students protested about back in the 60s and 70s.
