Bill Stern My favorite sports stories MacDavis Features B0007HBQV8 Good B0007HBQV8 Trade paperback, copyright 1946, Mac Davis Features publishers, 126 pages. Book shows typical wear for used book of 63+ years, covers have creasing and small scrapes, interior pages show yellowing typical of a pulp publication of the 40s. Usually ships with delivery confirmation. This is something from another era, it looks like a magazine from a retro newsstand (which it probably was) with Bill Stern's photo on the cover with his hat pushed back, a pair of giant binoculars in front and an old-fashioned giant metal microphone to one side as Bill's mouth hangs agape as he shouts the latest sports news to his radio fans. The red background of the cover with the yellow screaming banner made this magazine practically jump into our laps when we saw it. It is a hard-to-find copy, illustrated with some sports cartoons in black and white. While Bill Stern is no longer a household name, even though he broadcast the first televised Major League game and has a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, these pages of classic sports stories will tickle the fancy of any sports fan. Horse-racing, football, baseball and boxing are all covered with colorful tales that are poignant, exciting, downright nutty, and give a strong flavor of what sports were like in decades long-vanished. Subtitled: 150 Strange and Amazing Tales And Humorous Anecdotes From The World Of Sports As Told By A Great Story Teller. * Price:
