Richard Bach Jonathan Livingston Seagull Avon 0380012863 / 9780380012862 PAPERBACK Fair 0380012863 Paperback, 127 pages, January 1973 printing date indicated on copyright page, but this is most likely a much more recent edition since it has both a barcode and ISBN on the back cover, which was not widely used until at least the 1980s. Usually ships with delivery confirmation. Covers are well worn, even somewhat tattered and creased as a well-used copy with a small water stain and slight soiling on the upper right hand corner. Suitable for reading, not really collectible or suitable as a gift. Because the publisher did not clearly mark the book's printing date, we at first thought this could be an early edition, but after some investigation we think this is just an ordinary reprint. Johnathan Livingston Seagull is a quintessential early 70s self-help book, before the self-help field had the name 'self-help' as a genre. The book, illustrated with black and white photos of soaring birds, it is an extended fable or metaphor using seagulls as a way of explaining the human situation. Carried by high-school and college-age readers by the millions, it was in the 70s a fresh insight at the time but somewhat ponderous and overly contrived in the post-modern era when many similar and more self-help books have made metaphor and fable somewhat tepid in comparison. Read as in context as pioneering work however, may give insight to readers who are fans of the self-help movement. * Price:
