B001K8DWVU 1973 early edition published by Black Publishers of America /Morrow's Unlimited in San Diego, 102 pages. Book shows typical wear for used trade paperback book (5 1/2 wide x 8 1/2 inches high) covers have creasing, especially near the spine on the covers and small scrapes, binding is tight, a small but faint oval spot on the lower left on the front cover, may be a finger smudge. Back cover shows a crease in the lower left hand side on the corner. Front cover has remnants of name in ball-point that has been partially erased, another owner's name has been written in fountain pen on the inside of the front cover. Usually ships with delivery confirmation. Hairstyles as a reflection of African-American history through the centuries and the trials of a set of African peoples as they tried to adapt to the often trying circumstances of the loss of knowledge of caring for their own hair in an African cultural milieu in coming to the New World and the subsequent neglect symbolized by the title of being without a proper comb and evolving use of pomades, caustic liquids and head scarfs / headrags as a way of adaptation. Illustrated with a number of black and white line drawings. An early 70s insight into African American culture in an edition that is out-of-print. *
